Hoodlums invade Nigerian senators’ homes, cart away motorcycles, freezers, others
Hoodlums have invaded several Nigerian senators’ homes, carting away motorcycles, freezers and others items.The looting in the ongoing violence across the country has taken a new dimension as angry mob now target politicians.The Oluyole home of senator representing Oyo central, Teslim Folarin, has been invaded by hoodlums who carted away brand new motorcycles, freezers, grinding machines and other valuables.The invasion of Folarin’s home is the latest in a series of looting of properties across the country. Earlier today, some hoodlums looted materials at the home of a former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, Lasun Yusuff, in Osun State. In Calabar, Cross River State, hoodlums have also invaded the houses of Senator Geshom Bassey, representing the Southern Senatorial District and Victor Ndoma Egba, former NDDC chairman.Jonathan Agban-ugbal, a journalist with CrossRiverWatch, who is on the ground in Calabar, said, “They are looting the residence of Senator Bassey Ewa Henshaw, former NDDC MD. He is there in the house with his wife and daughter.”He said Mr Henshaw called him on phone and asked him to help call for a rescue.“I have reached out to the governor’s chief security officer and chief details, they said they would deploy people there immediately to see how they could help the situation,” the journalist said.“Tinapa is being looted as I am talking to you. I am just close to the Tinapa junction. In fact, it has been looted dry,” he said.Recall that warehouses where COVID-19 palliative were stored have also been looted in the last 48 hours across the country. Warehouses were looted in Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Cross River states among others.On Friday, a warehouse where COVID-19 palliatives were kept in Ibadan was looted by hoodlums, with more than 1,000 bags of rice stolen.However, the Oyo government, in a statement, said the warehouse and items looted belonged to a private company.Suspected hoodlums have also targeted homes of influential persons including monarchs.
