FRSC deploys 2,500 personnel, 50 vehicles for Osun election traffic, emergency response
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has deployed 2,500 personnel and 50 operational vehicles across Osun State ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, with a mandate to ensure safe traffic movement, emergency response and compliance with the restriction on vehicular movement.
The deployment, announced on Friday by the Deputy Corps Commander and Corps Public Education Officer, Osondu Ohaeri, covers the state’s three senatorial districts and all operational areas.
Ohaeri said the fleet includes seven heavy-duty tow trucks and six ambulances, which have been positioned to respond quickly to road crashes, emergencies and traffic obstructions during the electoral process.
He said the operation would focus on effective traffic management, prompt emergency response, clearance of road obstructions and strict enforcement of the restriction/no-movement order during the election.
The personnel deployment comprises 2,300 officers from the Osun Sector Command, supported by 50 personnel each from the Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo and Ogun Sector Commands. The FRSC said the additional personnel were deployed to strengthen its operational capacity across the state.
The Corps has also positioned rescue and operational assets at strategic locations to provide a safe and orderly movement environment for road users, election officials, accredited observers, security personnel and other members of the public.
Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed said the deployment reflected the FRSC’s commitment to supporting a peaceful, safe and credible election within its statutory mandate of road safety and traffic management.
“Our mandate is clear: to ensure that the roads remain safe, orderly and accessible within the framework of the electoral security arrangements. We will be firm, professional and impartial in the discharge of our responsibilities,” Mohammed said.
He added that FRSC personnel would operate with strict professionalism, neutrality, discipline and respect for human rights while working closely with the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES) and other relevant security agencies.
As part of preparations, the Corps will conduct a Train-the-Trainer Workshop for personnel assigned to election duties. Representatives of the FRSC, Nigeria Police Force, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Department of State Services (DSS) and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) are expected to participate.
The FRSC will also inspect and certify vehicles supplied by fleet operators for the transportation of electoral materials. According to the Corps, only vehicles that meet prescribed safety standards and are certified roadworthy will be allowed to undertake the assignment.
The Corps Marshal said the restriction/no-movement order would be strictly enforced in designated areas. Vehicles assigned to enforcement duties are scheduled to commence deployment from 0600 hours on Saturday, August 15, 2026, with personnel stationed at strategic points across the state.
The FRSC urged motorists, transport operators and other road users to plan their journeys ahead of the election, obey lawful traffic directives and avoid restricted routes. Operatives will also conduct traffic control, crowd management, obstruction clearance and rescue operations before, during and after voting, while personnel deployed to polling locations will work alongside the police and other security agencies.
