Osun election: INEC declares Gov. Adeleke winner of Osun gubernatorial election
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke winner of the governorship election conducted in Osun State on Saturday.
TheNewsGuru (TNG) reports INEC declared Adeleke winner of the Osun governorship election after concluding the collation of results from the State’s 30 local government areas on Sunday morning.
Adeleke was declared winner by the State Returning Officer and Collation Officer for the election, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, after the commission completed the collation of results from all 30 local government areas of the state.
According to the final results announced by INEC, Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who secured 444,815 votes.
TNG reports the margin between Adeleke and the APC candidate stood at 66,252 votes, while Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) finished a distant third with 17,180 votes.
Declaring the result, Prof. Ogunwole said: “I, Prof. Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, hereby certify that I am the Returning Officer for the 2026 Osun State governorship election held on 15th of August 2026. The election was contested.”
He subsequently declared Adeleke the winner.
“Ademola Adeleke of Accord Party, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” the returning officer announced.
The declaration followed the conclusion of the collation of results from the 30 local government areas where voting took place on Saturday.
Final result
TNG reports INEC recorded 2,339,544 registered voters for the election, with 1,010,684 voters accredited.
The commission said 1,005,800 votes were cast, of which 985,079 were valid votes, while 20,721 votes were rejected.

TNG reports the result showed a decisive two-horse contest between Accord and the APC, with the two leading parties accounting for the overwhelming majority of the valid votes cast across the state.
Adeleke dominates in several LGAs
Adeleke’s Accord Party recorded particularly strong performances in several local government areas, including Ede North, Ede South, Osogbo, Ife East, Iwo, Ife Central, Egbedore and Olorunda.
TNG reports in Ede North, Accord polled 35,427 votes, against APC’s 10,283, while in Ede South, Accord secured 26,188 votes, while APC recorded 6,219.
Accord also won Osogbo Local Government Area with 36,480 votes, compared with APC’s 30,474 votes, and in Ife East, Adeleke’s party recorded 27,201 votes, defeating APC, which polled 18,600 votes.
Accord also won Iwo with 27,085 votes to APC’s 19,660, while it secured Ife Central with 21,171 votes against APC’s 15,913.
The party further won Egbedore, where it scored 19,278 votes against APC’s 11,194, and Odo-Otin, where it polled 18,003 votes compared with APC’s 15,435.
APC wins several northern and eastern LGAs
The APC, however, maintained strongholds in a number of local government areas.
It won Ilesa East with 16,208 votes, against Accord’s 12,280, while it secured Boripe with 19,963 votes to Accord’s 12,448.
APC also prevailed in Irepodun, where it scored 15,713 votes against Accord’s 14,504, and Obokun, where it polled 16,120 votes against Accord’s 12,023.
In Irewole, APC recorded one of its strongest performances, securing 29,972 votes against Accord’s 10,934.
The party also won Atakunmosa West with 10,037 votes, Atakunmosa East with 9,936, Isokan with 14,063, Ola Oluwa with 10,782, Ife South with 14,678, and Olorunda with 24,671 votes.

With the declaration, INEC has formally concluded the collation and declaration of the result of the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Adeleke’s victory means the Accord candidate has emerged with 511,067 votes, ahead of APC’s 444,815, while ADC’s 17,180 votes placed it third in the final statewide tally.
