Wisdom for victory in spiritual conflicts – Taiwo Akinola
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith” ~ 1 John 5:4.
Introduction
Victory in the various battles of life is crucial to fulfilling destiny. Thankfully, by the decree of Heaven, victory is meant to be the consistent experience of God’s covenantpeople (1 John 5:4). Ignorance of this truth can result in stagnation, frustrated potential, and even an aborted destiny (Hosea 4:6).
Your understanding must increase before you can fully enjoy the blessings of lasting victory in Christ Jesus. No one arrives at his God-ordained destination through ignorance. Scripture declares, “Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom” (Proverbs 4:7
Sadly, many believers remain unaware of the activities of unseen forces organized by Satan to hinder progress, delay accomplishments, and oppose divine purpose. Such ignorance often gives the adversary an undue advantage (2 Corinthians 2:11).
The devil operates through a highly organized kingdom of darkness, with demonic forces assigned to various forms of oppression and resistance (Ephesians 6:12). These activities often manifest as bondage, confusion, fear, stagnation, delay, carelessness, poverty, and spiritual weakness.
One important truth to remember is that Satan often attacks either the area of your greatest strength or the area of your greatest potential. Therefore, when you discern unusual resistance in a particular area of your life, do not surrender. That area may well be the channel through which God intends to bring His greatest glory into your life.
Although victory is our covenant inheritance in Christ (2 Corinthians 2:14; Psalm 16:5–6), believers are still called to “fight the good fight of faith” (1 Timothy 6:12). Indeed, if you desire enduring peace, you must be prepared for spiritual warfare.
The Danger of Passivity and Unbelief
One of the greatest dangers facing believers is passivity (Judges 5:16). God never intended His people to surrender their inheritance to spiritual adversaries.
When Israel refused to believe God’s promise concerning the Promised Land, they wandered in the wilderness for forty years (Numbers 14:1–35). Their problem was not lack of opportunity but lack of faith.
Fear and unbelief remain powerful weapons in the hands of the enemy. Fear paralyzes vision, weakens resolve, and opens doors to satanic oppression. Yet Scripture repeatedly commands, “Fear thou not; for I am with thee” (Isaiah 41:10).
Beloved, the law of conquest is on your side (Deuteronomy 20:1-4). The fear of a problem is often greater than the problem itself. Therefore, engage the shield of faith, put on the whole armour of God, and stand firm. Your victory is certain in Christ Jesus.
Victory Is a Covenant Matter
Many of life’s battles are stronger than the natural strength of man. They are often invisible, strategic, and highly destructive. This is why we need the intervention of God, the Mighty Man of War (Exodus 15:3).
While New Testament warfare is primarily spiritual in nature (2 Corinthians 10:3–5), the principles of covenant victory remain unchanged. Throughout Scripture, whenever God fought for His people, numbers became irrelevant.
Jonathan understood this when he declared: “For there is no restraint to the LORD to save by many or by few” (1 Samuel 14:6). Whether confronting Pharaoh, Jericho, Midian, or Goliath, victory belonged to those who stood in covenant relationship with God.
Consider the examples of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. During times of famine, uncertainty, and economic hardship, God preserved and prospered them because of His covenant (Genesis 12:1–3; Genesis 26:1–14; Genesis 43:11–14).
The divine covenant is stronger than climate. It is stronger than economic conditions, political instability, and satanic opposition. When believers understand their covenant rights and stand upon God’s promises, they become difficult to defeat.
Wisdom for Victory in Spiritual Conflicts
The following principles provide strategic advantage in spiritual warfare:
1. Let God Lead the Battle
God Himself declared war against Amalek and revealed Himself as Jehovah-Nissi, the Lord our Banner (Exodus 17:15–16). Every spiritual battle must be fought under divine leadership. When God leads, victory is assured.
2. Seek Divine Guidance Continually
Each phase of warfare requires fresh direction from God. Before engaging the enemy, Israel repeatedly sought divine counsel (Judges 1:1; 1 Samuel 23:2). God’s voice remains the believer’s greatest strategic advantage.
3. Maintain Consecration
Victory belongs to those who are wholly devoted to God. Consecration strengthens spiritual authority and keeps the believer aligned with divine purpose. A compromised life weakens spiritual effectiveness.
4. Avoid Every Distraction
Deuteronomy 20:5–9 reveals that distractions weaken warriors. The enemy often uses legitimate concerns to divert attention from divine assignments. Stay focused. Refuse to be entangled with anything that weakens your spiritual pursuit.
5. Trust Completely in the Lord
The believer’s confidence must rest in God alone: “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the LORD our God” (Psalm 20:7). He remains our Shield, Defender, and Deliverer.
6. Maintain Your Covenant Position
Never become presumptuous or careless in your walk with God. Victory is sustained through obedience, humility, faith, and continued fellowship with the Lord. Covenant blessings flourish where covenant principles are honoured.
7. Refuse Fear and Fight from Victory
The armour God provides is proven and dependable (Ephesians 6:10–18). The believer does not fight for victory but from victory. Christ has already conquered sin, Satan, death, and hell through His finished work on the Cross (Colossians 2:15). Therefore, refuse intimidation. Stand boldly in faith, knowing that the battle ultimately belongs to the Lord.
Physical strength means little when directed against God and His purposes. Samson remained irresistible to the Philistines while he maintained his covenant relationship with God (Judges 16:17). David defeated Goliath, not because of military experience, but because he understood covenant reality (1 Samuel 17:45–47).
Now it is our turn to arise and shine (Isaiah 60:1–3). The same God who gave victory to the saints of old remains our God today.
Conclusion
Beloved, when you realize that there is often only a giant standing between you and your God-ordained inheritance, you become more determined to confront and overcome that giant.
Every giant conquered becomes a testimony gained. Every battle won opens the door to greater levels of glory, freedom, honour, promotion, and accomplishment.
Therefore, confront every force of poverty, stagnation, sickness, fear, oppression, and limitation with the authority of God’s Word. Refuse to surrender what Christ has already purchased for you.
Remember: you are more than a conqueror through Him who loves you (Romans 8:37). The battle may be fierce, but your victory is certain.
As you stand in faith, walk in covenant obedience, and engage the wisdom of God, every spiritual conflict shall end in triumph. By the power of the Lord Jesus Christ, you shall prevail, advance, and fulfil your destiny. You will not miss your place in God’s purpose, in Jesus’ precious Name. Amen. Happy Sunday!
